Introduction
Hello everyone,
I have been holding off on posting to this blog for a while because I've been trying to come up with ideas for an introduction. The problem with making any introduction on a website is the same with making any introduction: it is a first impression. Now, what about me is impressing? Honestly, I am pretty normal compared to all of the crazy people around me. Let me explain.
I used believe there are certain values that should guide every action a person takes, and since I became an adult I have noticed a lot of people doing things for no reason at all. Why do people unknowingly watch TV for hours at a time without even being entertained? Why do they vote for a government that views their life in tax revenue and talks about freedom and duty as if the two concepts are compatible? There is a blur of uncertainty replacing reasoned skepticism in the world and nobody seems to even care. It is truly crazy to accept uncertainty as the norm.
Uncertainty is almost a religion where people believe that thinking too much is somehow bad and the natural state of the mind is confusion. Uncertainty is not normal. It is perfectly fine not to understand an idea or not to know the cause of an action, but it is not OK to accept uncertainty as a matter of fact. When uncertainty is a matter of fact it becomes an excuse not to question the world or the reason for doing things. Anyone who accepts uncertainty as a fact of life is crazy.
How is not accepting uncertainty as a matter of fact impressive? Well, for someone raised as a Catholic, who went to a public high school, and is in the military I am still able to question authority and any fact before accepting it, that is impressive.
As usual, there is always a problem with denying anything without promoting an alternative. The alternative to uncertainty is obviously certainty which can only be gained through reason--a process of identification.
"Reason (the faculty which identifies and integrates the material provided by man?s senses) is man's only means of perceiving reality, his only source of knowledge, his only guide to action, and his basic means of survival." Ayn Rand
So to get things back on topic I believe I am a reasonable person and because I am reasonable I am able to understand things in a certain way. That is why I made this blog.
The purpose of this blog is to post things that are interesting to me. Some of the posts will be like this one, where I apply concepts or values to an argument, but I am also interested in programming, government, history, working out, and writing. Some of my posts may be serious and some may be funny. You will just have to keep checking my site to see what I will post next.
